Every year, the Missions and Outreach team distributes “Change the World” cans to members. These cans are used to collect loose change (and/or large bills!) throughout the year. At the end of the year, the cans are collected and the money is used to support important causes around our community, nation and world. This is another wonderful way that we, as a faith community, can put the messages from the pulpit about loving one another and promoting justice around the world into action. In 2011, we raised over $6,000.00 to support these efforts!

Through these funds, Beaver has been a longtime supporter of local groups like the Heiter Community Center, Haven Ministries and the Eastern Union County Supplemental Food Program. Nationally, we have supported things like Katrina recovery efforts and the Redbird Mission, a Methodist organization that tackles chronic poverty in rural Kentucky. Internationally, we have supported many organizations including The Heifer Project, the Rwandan Orphans Project and the Jubilee House, supporting sustainable agriculture and economic development in Nicaragua.

GIVING UP SOMETHING FOR LENT? LOOKING TO TAKE UP SOMETHING FOR LENT? Check us out…
There are opportunities to join this community of faith this Lenten Season…

Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 22nd, and each Wednesday During Lent join
the Lewisburg Ministerial Association for Soup and Scripture at 11:55,
held at Christ Lutheran Church (3rd and St. Lois Streets) for a light
lunch and a Lenten homily delivered by a different minister each week
based on 7 Fruits of the Spirit.

Wednesday, Feb 22nd, join our faith community 7 PM at BMUMC for an Ash
Wednesday service of Lessons and Hymns of Lent, including Communion
and Imposition of Ashes.

Sunday, Feb 26th, and every Sunday, join us for Sunday School at 9:15
and one of our Worship Service at 8:30 or 10:30 as we explore the Last
Seven Words of Christ on the Cross.

Tuesday, Feb 26th, and each Tuesday during Lent, Word at the Woods
Bible Study at 10:00 at River Woods Cafe’ in the Private Dining Room
or Pub, Grub and Theology 6:30 PM at Puirsell’s Irish Pub.

Sunday, Mar. 4 join us Sunday evening at 6:30 PM for an evening to
explore Native American Culture, sponsored by our Social Concerns and
Mission Outreach teams.

Sunday, Mar. 11, 6:30 PM, Youth Fellowship Movie Night

Friday, Mar. 23, Youth Lock-In beginning 7PM.

Sunday, April 1, join us for an exciting Palm Sunday celebration with
Brass, Hand Bells, Cherub Choir and Adult Choir as we begin our
journey through Holy Week with Sunday School at 9:15 and one service
at 10:30 AM.

Thursday, April 5th, 7PM Maunday Thursday Service with Communion, 7PM
in the Sanctuary.

Friday, April 6th, 12 Noon, BMUMC participates in the Community Good
Friday Observance with the Lewisburg Ministerial Association and
Bucknell University Chaplain and Priest at Rooke Chapel.

Friday, April 6th, beginning at 5 PM continuing to 9pm the Sanctuary
of BMUMC will be open for prayer and reflection to walk “Stations of
the Cross” to pray and reflect.

Sunday, April 8th, Come Celebrate Easter at 6:30 AM Sunrise Service at
Slifer House with the communities of St. Paul’s UMC, River Woods UMC
and BMUMC.

Sunday, April 8th, 9:00 AM Community Breakfast / Potluck at BMUMC;
9:45 AM the children of BMUMC will participate in Easter cctivities
including an egg hunt and at 10:30 AM (1 service only) BMUMC will
celebrate Easter Worship.

So, take up something this Easter, Worshiping regularly with your
community here at Beaver Memorial United Methodist church.

Join Us: Dinner by the River Team

Dinner by the River- Beaver UMC is excited to have a Dinner by the River team this year! DBTR is a food kitchen serving free meals to area residents every Thursday evening at First Presbyterian in Lewisburg. We will be making and serving meals March 8^th, May 17^th, July 26^th, October 4^thand December 13^th. We would love to make this a whole church effort! There is a job for everyone! We will be menu planning, prepping food, cooking, setting tables, making centerpieces, serving drinks & food, cleaning-up and hopefully providing dinner entertainment. Wednesday noontime Soup and Scripture series for Lent begins

“Fruitful Living from Galatians Five” is the topic of this year’s Soup and Scripture to be held each Wednesday in Lent at Christ Lutheran Church. The first topic will be “Love” by The Rev. William Henderson. Lunch will be served. Our church will be in charge of the March 7^th luncheon with Rev. Foote speaking on “Peace”.

Ash Wednesday Service, 2/22 at 7PM

Ash Wednesday begins the church season of Lent which leads us to the Lord’s passion and resurrection. With the observance of Ash Wednesday, we prepare for the Easter event through self-examination, penitence, prayer, and meditating on the Word of God. It calls us to remember our baptism and who we are as Disciples of a risen Lord. The service will be one of Lenten Scripture Lessons, Songs, and Stillness. We will observe Communion as we covenant together, once again, to be the Church in this world. At the end of the service, if you so desire, there will be the imposition of ashes as we leave the sanctuary to remind us of our own mortality and the importance of living every day to the fullest.

Summer Mission Trip: Ready?

Mission Outreach Chair
The Mission/Outreach Team has again planned a trip for those interested in working
outside of our own community in service to others. July 8-14, 2012, representatives from
BMUMC will spend time helping and getting to know the community comprised of PeeDee and Lumbee Indians in Pembroke, North Carolina. These Native Americans, who migrated
in the 1700’s from South Carolina and live along the Lumber River, are not on a reservation, but populate a community that has made strides in their work for civil rights and education. However, many in the area are poor. According to a Children’s Defense Fund analysis, about 1/3 of North Carolina’s American Indian children live in poverty, and the tribe’s efforts to secure services that other recognized tribes receive
have not been successful. Accommodations for that week will be sleeping bags on the floor of the Pembroke UMC, and meals will be a part of our group’s task. So, if you have the desire to work hard, meet new challenges, and enlarge your understanding
of a people and culture in another place, please stay after the 10:30 a.m., worship
service on Sun., Feb. 19, for information about the trip and to let us know your interest.

Safe Sanctuaries Training, February 25th

Safe Sanctuaries Training: Saturday, February 25 from 9 AM until Noon

Persons interested need to sign up by Feb 15th and need to have their clearances by the time of the training session. Clearances can be obtained from the conference web site at www.susumc.org- click on safe sanctuaries policies. The cost is 13.99 for both the criminal and child abuse checks and will be managed through Trak-1 by the conference. -renewable every 3 years. Persons applying will be reimbursed by the church if desired. Any questions : call Barb Wagner.
